In stockSteel Red Structural Primer Alkyd Based High Quality 1Ltr/4Ltr - HiChem from HiChem is a reliable and durable primer designed for application on steel surfaces. Its alkyd based high-quality base offers resistance to rust and corrosion to the surface of the steel, ensuring a longer life span of the structural component.
An alkyd based high quality and very fast drying anticorrosive primer used for the protection of structural steel in industrial, commercial and farming environments.
Stir thoroughly before use. Surface Preparation - Remove rust and old flaking paintwork by wire brush, grinding and sanding. Remove all the gloss from previously painted areas by sanding with 280-400 grit abrasive paper. Clean surface with HiChem Prepwash to remove all trades of wax, grease, silicone, oil and dirt prior to priming. Non ferrous metals should be primed with Super Etch Primer.
Thinning-Thin Structural Pimer with 10-15% by volume Enamel Thinner E260. For large surfaces and if temprature is high (say >25°C) replace E250 with Mineral Turps.
Application- By spray gun only. Apply 2-3 medium coats to produce the required build. Allow 5 minute drying time between coats. Minimum dry film build 25 micron HIG is recommended.
Drying Time-At 20°C, tack free - 15-20 minutes, hard dry-24 hours. Allow 1 hour
drying before re-coating with conventional enamels. Cleanup-Use Enamel Thinner E250 or Mineral Turps. Coverage-Approximately 12 square metres per litre.
Storage-Store in a cool dry place. Always replace he lid securely after use. For further information refer to the Product Information Sheet.
Risk-Highly Flammable. Harmful by inhalation and if swallowed. Irritating to skin. Safety Directions - Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and avoid brathing the vapour. Keep away from sources of ignition - no smoking. Do not empty into drains. First Aid-If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone 13 11 26. If swallowed do not induce vomiting. Give a glass of water. Spills/leaks-Collect on earth, sand or absorbent material. Fire-Use dry chemicals, foam or carbon dioxide to fight fire.
