The HiChem R13 Single Red Rust Not Epoxy Paint 1L is a highly durable epoxy enamel designed for the protection and decoration of metal surfaces. Suitable for both interior and exterior applications, this paint provides a tough and long-lasting coating that helps protect surfaces from corrosion, abrasion, and environmental wear. It is ideal for use on wrought iron, metal structures, railings, gates, fences, garden furniture, gutters, downpipes, and tools, delivering a strong and reliable finish.

Formulated for use on a variety of materials, this epoxy enamel can be applied to mild steel, galvanised and zinc-coated steel, and aluminium when used with the appropriate primer. It can also be applied to timber and concrete surfaces following suitable surface preparation. The paint is easy to apply by spray, brush, or roller, offering smooth coverage and dependable durability for maintenance and construction projects where long-term protection is required.

Surface Preparation

• Remove rust, mill scale, and loose paint by wire brushing, sanding, or grinding

• Sand previously painted surfaces using 280–400 grit abrasive paper

• Treat residual rust using HiChem Deoxidiser & Rust Remover

• If rust cannot be removed, apply Rust Converter & Primer Sealer

• Clean surfaces thoroughly with HiChem PrepWash

Priming

• Steel: Primer not required for mild service conditions or rust-free steel

• For enhanced protection, use HiChem All Surface Primer, Metal Primer, Structural Primer, or Super Etch Primer

• Non-ferrous metals such as galvanised steel, aluminium, copper, or brass should be primed with HiChem Super Etch Primer

Application

• Spray: Apply 2–3 medium coats allowing 10–15 minutes drying time between coats

• Brush/Roller: Apply 1 coat, allow to dry for 24 hours, sand lightly, then apply a second coat

Thinning

• Thin up to 5% with Mineral Turps if required

• In temperatures above 25°C, thinning with Mineral Turps is recommended

Drying Times (20°C / 50% Humidity)

• Touch Dry: 2 hours

• Hard Dry: 24 hours

• Allow additional drying time in cooler conditions

Clean Up

• Clean equipment using HiChem Enamel Thinner E250
